What is Contingency Management?
​Contingency Management (CM) is an empirically-validated behavioural treatment for substance use and related disorders. It involves adding incentives to treatment programmes to reinforce or reward  behavioural change. Incentives may include giving clients their choice of services or privileges (e.g. shopping vouchers) when a therapeutic goal is met. For example, CM can be used to increase attendance at therapy or, in the case of addiction, it can be used to extend someone’s period of abstinence.

What is the CONGAM study?
​The Contingency Management for Gambling (CONGAM) study is the first ever, UK-based feasibility trial of CM for gambling disorder. It will explore the barriers and facilitators to CONGAM by surveying the views of treatment providers and treatment-seeking gamblers, before conducting a small-scale trial.

Who can take part?
​We are currently recruiting people (aged over 18), who are or have been involved in providing interventions or frontline support for people with gambling problems (including therapists, counsellors, practitioners, helpline workers, advisors, supervisors, managers, peer support providers, and trainers) in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.
What does taking part involve?
If you decide to take part we will invite you to complete a confidential online survey which will take up to 20 minutes. The survey will include:
  • Signing a consent form
  • Answering brief background questions related to demographics and work role
  • Completing a 40 item structured questionnaire where you are asked to rate how much you agree or disagree with statements about Contingency Management for Problem Gambling.
